Exchange 2010 DL and AD Contact Qustion

I was always curious to know if you create a Contact in AD and do not create it in Exchange (whether it is 2003 or newer), but you do populate the Email attribute field in ADUC.

Q: If you add this contact to a DL will they get the e-mail?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

No, It will not. Actually you can create a Contact in AD or exchange with setting external E-mail address. After creating contact you can just make that contact hidden from GAL so it will not be published for Exchange users.

Then you add it to DL and mail will be routed to that contact.

To hide a contact from GAL, Open EMC -- Recipient Configuration -- Main Contacts -- Search contact and right click on it---- open properties -- General Tab -- there will be check box to mark "Hidden from GAL"
