Android Messenger/Messaging app that syncs messages to web?

With gmail, I can log into another device and my gmail emails are synced to the device.  Is there such an app/service for sms/mms messages?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Google hangouts keeps copies of the messages in your account and are accessible via the gMail page

AirDroid does what you want for SMS/MMS, as well as a file management, and more.
The best part? It's FREE in the Google Play Store!

MightyText also works, is free, and has a Chrome extension you can use:

Important!: I'd be remiss to not say that ALL the apps (except Hangouts) mentioned so far  are "free" to download BUT require payment for their premium features (including the ones mentioned by Leslie).  It's important to read through each of them to see firstly what the cost is and secondly to see whether you actually need the premium features or can live without them.

Thanks Michael74 -- I've tried, but must be missing something.

When I log into the gmail account linked with hangouts, my Chat tab(?) is empty.  Is this where messages are supposed be by synced?

To confirm: when I set "SMS enabled" in hangouts to be default SMS app, all existing messages from the stock messaging app are now listed in Hangouts.  Should these messages (which weren't sent/received using hangouts) sync to gmail Chat tab?  Or only those sent using Hangout (which isn't working for me either)?
RobOwner (Aidellio)Commented:
Hangouts will not sync sms. Google actually says to use their other app, Messenger

Leslie - I looked at MightyText but got the impression it synced between my one phone and chrome, but if I move my sim card to another phone, it would not sync messages to the new phone?
RobOwner (Aidellio)Commented:

I'm using mysms. It sync's all your messages via your Google account. Incoming messages are intercepted by mysms so you only ever use the one app.
I've got no financial interest in it, I just find it incredibly useful to be able to send and receive texts on my laptop and tablet.
Everything is sync'd so that if I delete a sms conversation on the laptop, it removed it from the phone etc

Thanks Rob - looks like mysms does what I'm looking for.  I'm testing right now.

A few questions if you have the time:
Are there any issues/limitations you've experienced?  Are you using premium version?
Will it sync my existing messages, or only those going forward?
RobOwner (Aidellio)Commented:
Are you using premium version?
nope not yet. Not until I need those features. but at $10 a year I'll seriously consider it.

Will it sync my existing messages, or only those going forward?
it sync's everything to begin with when you first sign into the website. It's a really easy setup process, we'll that I found anyway.

Are there any issues/limitations you've experienced?
Not really. Sending a message from your phone won't appear right away on the web app until you refresh the page but as I don't often use the two together it isn't a problem.

We may end up using this differently. If you are looking to replace your phone or reset it then you'll most likely need the premium version to get those messages back on your phone
