Port Forwarding

Hello, I have an Exchange server that has just been set up on my network. I need to forward email to the server through my router which is a Linksys WRT1900AC. First, will this router support this? Second, what port do I forward?

Thank you.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You need to forward ports 25 (SMTP - used for emails) and port 443 (HTTPS - used for connectivity) to the exchange server.

Look for port forward or NAT options on the router's config. You'll likely need to put the port number (or preselect from a list) and the IP address of your router in.

And (while it is not required) you can open port 80 so that you can redirect HTTP to HTTPS (this is usually so that you can ease the users experience).

Depends on the traffic and protocol you plan on using.  Good article here:

443/TCP for Encrypted Web Connections
80/TCP for unencrypted web connections (not recommended)
143/TCP,993/TCP - IMAP4 Clients
110/TCP, 995/TCP - POP3 clients
587/TCP - SMTP clients (authenticated).

25/TCP for SMTP
