Secured internet login?

If I go to an online login page and I don't see the "HTTPS" preceding the site address, but I know that the site uses a WSDL for authentication that uses "HTTPS", is this still an unsecure connection?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

how do you know?  the data from you to it is not encrypted but passed as plain text  so it is not secure.

For the security to be effective you need encryption from end to end. The fact that you're entering authentication credentials on a site that is not already SSL protected means that the data being transmitted from that point to its next destination is unsecure.

The credentials may be transmitted securely to the authentication server itself but until it gets there that traffic is out in the open and can easily be intercepted.
