.htaccess - Redirect Required

In the past I've used the .htaccess to redirect URLs when I've done site re-writes etc.

I'm in the process of porting my site from HTML to Wordpress.

I have over a thousand articles that will come across, the old URL looks like... And the number increments accordingly  up to

The new site uses permalinks and the articles there will be... to

SO IDENTICAL but without the .htm on the end!

So Is there a piece a code that I can put on my .htaccess that will redirect all requests from the original URL to the new one without having over a thousand 301 redirects?

Hope that makes sense.
