steps of changing domain from .local to .com

I have several windows servers including a Remote Desktop services server. My internal domain is setup as a .local however now my SSL certificate from Godaddy will not renew for my remote apps because it has the .local name in the SAN. Their support told me I need to remove it and rename my domain to one of my .com sites. I have gmsmrm.local and gmsmrm.com. What are the steps and side effects of making this change?
I also run AD sync with Office 365 with an azure server. Will this be effected as well?

You were right. I added gmsmrm.com to my SAN SSL certificate and applied it to my RDP server and it works! I didn't have to do anything to my local domain. However this leads me to believe that I may want to change .local down the road.
