Exchange 2010 Business Phone Field

We add the users telephone number into the IP field within the properties for the user in Active Directory.  Can someone explain the relationship between AD and the Business Phone Field within the properties of the user in Exchange 2010?  Ive noticed that unless the number is added in the Business Phone field in Exchange it doesn't show in the GAL.  Is there anyway to get these fields to sync so it doesn't have to be added in both places?

Thank you

Hi There Hyperbyte,

the Business number in Outlook is related to the telephoneNumber attribute in AD, which is the telephone number field on the general tab of the users AD properties.

Once changed, it will need to replicate and then sync with the mailbox properties. The GAL will then update with the values on the next cycle. So you could wait up to 24 hours after the change for it to appear in Outlook.
