I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

It depends on what your question entails. Are you wanting to go with less cost or less effort to recertify? For MCP, you *may* be able to submit CEUs to recertify based on the field you are employed in and if it adheres to the mission of the MCP (i'm sure it does). If it's cost you're into altering, I would wait for a Groupon or something, normally those give you "second chance vouchers" and a mini-class to ensure you are refreshed before testing (if the CEU thing doesn't work out). *edit* you said upgrade, not update. What track are you looking to enter? the MCP can go anywhere under the MS Cert Umbrella.

Here's Microsoft's page for all their MCP info. Depending on what your cert is, you can upgrade it to more current certs.

Also, for example, I have a Windows 8 cert in the 687 test. That makes me an MCP. If I were to take and pass the Win8 688 test, those two combined would make me an MCSA (MS Certified Solutions Associate). From there, I can take two more tests (695 and 696) to become an MCSE (Solutions Expert) in Win8.

I noticed you tagged Server 2003 in this question so if that's what your cert is in, you can upgrade it to 2012 with this exam:

I bet that test is tough as nails!!! Good luck with it. Microsoft does not play around when it comes to certs, but that's why they are so good to have.
