Windows 2012 R2 and HP MSA70

I am re purposing an old HP DL380 G5 server wih a single P800 and chained 3 trays of MSA70's. It has been a while since working with the P800 so here is my question.

I nthe P800 BIOS were you can create and view volume I only see the disk for the first MSA70 tray and not the other two. I want to create one large volume for use in Storage Spaces. Also using one P800 can I chain more than 3 MSA70's together?

You should see all the disks in all the enclosures, sounds like there's a cabling problem. One port of the MSA70 is "in" and the other is "out", sounds like the host is connected to "in" on the first enclosure but "out" from the first enclosure goes to "out" on the second in your case.

You're also only meant to cascade MSA70 in 1+1 configuration so two MSA70s should be on one port of the P800 and the third one on the second port. (it does work to have 4 enclosures cascaded on a single port but it isn't supported).

Use the ACU rather than ORCA (BIOS) to create the array, you have more options on splitting an array into multiple logical disks if needed with the ACU.

I will have to check the cabling but that cabling has remained the same since the server was decommissioned and was working fine...

right now 3 arrays are chained off of one port on the p800 this is support but 4 is not? Why is this?

Thanks Again

BTW,  I am having a hard time install the proper HP software on the server since the server was built before WIndows 2012 r2 was released.

Three enclosures on one channel isn't supported, but like I said previously it will still work with up to 4 on a single channel.

Thanks I am going to check the cabling the servers later today and will keep you posted.

Any thoughts on this...
