how to setup Cortana in Windows 10

I am running Windows 10.  I tried to setup Cortana but the instructions asked for my Microsoft account which I gave and then it said I had to give my "local account" one last time.  I tried a couple of old passwords, but none worked.  What should I be doing in this situation.
thanks,

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

1. Open Settings, Accounts.
2. At the top it will show your name and your associated microsoft email address (usually ending with a .live.com ,live.co.uk or hotmail.com or similar address).
3. If no Microsoft account is associated, click on Manage my Microsoft account and make sure this account is associated with your local account. Click Sign In to logon with your Microsoft account (use full email address).

To check your local account, open Computer Management Console, expand Local users and Groups, then Users to view account names. The name of the account will be something like your first name.
The password for your local and Microsoft account should be the same.

Try configuring Cortana again.

If you are able to logon, you are able to change your password without knowing the old one. Before you try that, please try a blank password in the procedure you already used.
