Windows 2012 64-bit with Epson DFX-8500 printers - help please

Hi All

Have an issue, a client we are upgrading their industry specific app to 2012 64-bit still on Win2k3.  They print tons of reports to Epson DFX-8500 printers on the network queues are set up within Win2k3.  If the OS can see it, the app can I am being told by the app vendor.

Epson - support was basically non-existent.

It doesn't appear there are drivers at all for this for Win2k12.  The client doesn't want to throw out the three DFX-8500s.  Anyone know of a driver for another Epson printer that could work, or has anyone used these printers successfully with Win2k12 64?

Thanks!!!!!

You may need to use something like driverscape.  The site below offers 64-bit drivers for your printer.

http://www.driverscape.com/download/epson-dfx-8500

I do not recommend third party driver sites, but there may be no choice.

You should be able to use the Win 8.x driver but driver signature enforcement on 2012 has been changed and you may need to "Disable driver signature enforcement" in the boot options for the server to allow the driver to install:

Settings > Power > (while holding down left shift key) Restart
At the Restart menu that appears ...
Troubleshoot > Start up settings > Restart
Server will than restart at the Advanced Boot Options menu
Select "Disable driver signature enforcement" > Enter
When you try to install the printer driver Windows Server will complain that the driver is unsigned.
When the Windows Security window opens click "Install this driver software anyway"
Repeat until all driver components are installed.

Thanks for the reply, however, they do not have an Windows 8.x driver.
Hey John

Thanks for the reply - confused they state on this site that these drivers are the vendors drivers - what do you know about the site?  Especially because the vendor claims to not have the drivers.  This is for a small environment where they will have ONE server running win2k12 natively with all AD roles, dhcp, dns, fismo, global, av, backup software, apache - was trying to get them to virtualize at least that way I could break things out and isolate.  This box needs to be as stable as Win2k12 is able to be so don't want to use third party drivers.

Thank you!!
I cannot find any Epson supplied drivers. On the third party site I pointed to, it recognized my own 64-bit machine and suggested the top download button. The lower button was marked for 32-bit.

If these drivers do not work for you then it may be the printer is not supported in your environment.
So I guess they are written third party even though the site states they get them from Epson.
I would be concerned about stability of the server in this particular case because they only want to have the one server running everything.  What do you think?
Yes - it is clear that this model printer is no longer supported then I guess in Win2k12.

Thanks!  Not much we can do with this one.  HW is EOL for sometime now but was worth a try
Thanks. I try to keep my client printers modern and for the most part, the newer HP printers all worked with our new Server 2012 machines.
Hey John

They wanted to keep their 6-7 yr old impact printers to print out multi-part forms or would have to change their workflow, but from what I am hearing the generic drivers could do the trick - thanks John for your response
