can not get internet on my desktop

Dear experts,

I have a cisco 3550 switch and I assigned 2 ports( FA0/47,FA0/48) to vlan 40.
Interface vlan 40 is up as a result.

I have given the network 10.10.1.0 to interface vlan 40.
I plugged my internet router to the switch to the interface fa0/1 and made it layer 3 and gave it an ip address 192.168.1.2.

I put a ip route 10.10.1.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.1 in the switch. I was thinking this will forward my internet traffic to the internet but I am not getting internet in my laptop. Why.

My laptop is connect to port fa0/47 and has the ip address 10.10.1.50 / 255.255.255.0 with GATEWAY IP of 10.10.1.1.
When I console to the switch and type ping www.google.com I get replies with no issues. but I can not get it to work on my laptop.

What is wrong with my config please help.

I would make sure you have connected a LAN port on your router to a LAN port on the Network. Why not put it on the same subnet as well.

ip routing is enabled.

I also addred IP route 10.10.1.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.1

But I have no luck making the internet to work on the laptops.

if I put all the ports in a vlan 1 the laptops get IP from the router and the internet works. But I wanted to test the whole thing using a layer 3 port that is connected to the router and layer 2 ports connected to the laptop with separate vlan.

I really want to know why my experiment did not work.

Didn't see the mention of this being a test. Good luck with your testing.

any reason why the internet did not work on the desktop? the switch as I mention is configured with trunk port that was connected to port 1 facing the internet router. The ports connected to the desktop have vlan x and I enabled IP routing. Not sure what the issue is.. I just want to make my concept clear by doing this setup.
