Upgrade vSphere to 5.5

Hi,

We're looking to upgrade from Vmware vSphere 5.0u3 > vSphere 5.5 and looking for a checklist to ensure we don't miss anything and have a smooth upgrade. The latest checklist/guide i can find is for "Vmware vCenter 5.0 Upgrade Checklist" .  Is there a similar doc for upgrading to 5.5?

Also looking for a checklist for what we need to check for hardware (servers, SANs, HBAs) and related software like backup/DR products, plus anything else I've missed!

Cheers

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

The first thing you need to do, is visit the HCL

Check the VMware Hardware Compatability Lists HCL here

The VMware Hardware Compatibility List is the detailed lists showing actual vendor devices that are either physically tested or are similar to the devices tested by VMware or VMware partners. Items on the list are tested with VMware products and are known to operate correctly.Devices which are not on the list may function, but will not be supported by VMware.

After that, it's a simple case of download the ESXi versions (OEM) if you have vendor servers, e.g. HP, Dell, IBM etc insert the CDROM, and Boot it, and run the Installer....

The same with vCenter Server Upgrade but do this first!

Hardware Compatibility for vSphere 5.5 can be checked on VMware HCL as mentioned by expert above.

Software like backup/DR product (i.e Veeam), can be verified with vendor. If you installed vCenter plug-ins from hardware vendors such as SAN (i.e Netapp Virtual Storage Console). These should be verified as well. Vendors will provide you with software that's compatible with 5.5 if any. These usually needs to be upgraded before you upgrade to 5.5.

You can also refer to this KB we answered in the past and see if it helps.
