Cisco ASA ASDM Java Version

We have a 5510 that is humming along smoothly, as they do.  But I am getting a bit annoyed at having to use an insecure antediluvian version of Java to get the ASDM to render.  I know the ASA 5510 is EOL, but is there a way to get newer versions of Java to render the ASDM, without too much wrangling?  Like with there a web interface based version of the ASDM?  Also, why do newer versions of Java seemingly not backwards compatible with the rendering capabilities of older versions?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I use a VM created especially for this: Windows XP SP3 with Java 6.
Insecure as hell, but I only start it when I have to.

This way I don't care what Oracle/Sun breaks next in Java.

Yeah I was thinking of something similar.  I am guessing we will have to retire the old thing before the support contract comes up for renewal.
