SQL Server Primary Server Databases issue

There are over 30 databases hosted in a clustered environment. The primary server lists 9 databases out of the 30 as "mirror, synchronized/restoring" when they should list as "principal/synchronized." Sometimes it's three databases, today it's 8.  I can manually fail them over, but want to identify the root-cause.Has anyone experienced this?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Does this Query give the same result. I have experienced that SSMS sometimes is not updated to the correct status.

select mirroring_state_desc, mirroring_role_desc, mirroring_safety_level_desc, mirroring_partner_name from sys.database_mirroring where mirroring_guid is not null

Did you check the logs (Event and SQL) for error messages?

The next step is to move the witness to another separate server in the database cluster.  Microsoft strongly recommends this step, in an effort to ensure that the automatic failover remains robust.
