Windows Forest


I have recently installed a new forest and three child domains in a test environment and I just wanted to check if I was missing something as I don't seem to be able to add new users etc when I select the "Change domain" and change to another child or the root forest domain....what am I missing?

You are using which account? Root forest domain Administrator?
You should use child's domain Administrator account.

Run the following command & see if the FSMO roles of the server is available. You're trying to create users in child domain or forest root domain

Netdom query  FSMO'

I'm trying to create an account on one domain controller (while selecting the option to change to another domain controller) on another site.

Add your user account to enterprise admin group and then select change the domain controller connect to another site and try to create user. Mostly you should be able to.
