Remote management on 2012 of 2008 servers

I turned on Remote management on 2008 server. Ran Enable-PSRemoting as well. UAC is turned off. I ran Winrs -r:<remote ServerName> cmd and was successful.

Yet on the 2012 management console it shows "Online - cannot get role and feature data"

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Normal and expected. Many of the "server manager" queries are new to 2012. 2008 doesn't have them so does not know how to respond to them. You can do some management using the individual snap-ins, such as DNS. But overall system configuration will have to be done via console or RDP.

That is an intersting point. I recently attended the Microsoft Server 2012 Administration 5 day course where I learned about using the 2012 to manage the 2008 servers and there was no mention of this. But I guess I will not spend more time investigating this.
