Exchange smarthost in DMZ - what ports to open up?

I've got a Proofpoint appliance setup and IP for it is in the DMZ.
I am wondering besides the ports needed open on the Proofpoint appliance (as far as connecting to management console from an internal IP), are there typically other ports/connections that need to be allowed between the smarthost in the DMZ and the internal Exchange servers? Exchange 2010 and 2007 mix is environment I have.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Port 25 and 587 should be sufficient for mail flow, Does the appliance use AD integrated logins OR LDAP based group queries if so TCP/UDP 389 , 88, 53 etc

Where will the server get its time source from,

You really need to understand the features of the product and more importantly which ones you will use, I suggest you ask proofpoint for a architecture diagram which details the ports utalized by the appliance
