my guess is that in ie9 adobe has a known issue with this browser that with registry settings as they are the adobe add on keeps installing and directx pop up keeps happening.  ie9 is the latest vista supports.  This is probably just a case of let's beat up on Microsoft (adobe ignores this know issue..).

I will look for popups, but do not beleive they will continue, as I will use alternate browser.

upgrading os is not option.  thanks

You should be able to find that in autoruns as administrator.

tried to run http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=2648 autoplay repair wizard.
the above utility keeps crashing so I can't run it.
Autorun seems same as autoruns.

**Can you please be more specific where I can go into autorun?  It seems that updates turned off autorun/autoplay.(figured out)
