windows 10 Audio

I have an older HP system upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10, the auto no longer works, using HD audio, driver is loaded, and recognizes when jack is connected, but no audio.  I checked and set playback device, output audio format etc.  I right click selected playback device and click test and I get 'Failed to pay test tone"

I installed a USB audio device, drivers loaded automatically but exact same result. Tried other pair of speakers, same result.

I ran a SFC /Scannow result said all files are correct

I uninstalled Norton AV, same result.

Anyone got any other ideas?

mobo driver maybe realtek, but I also tried a USB Audio adapter (Cmedia) with same result so doesn't seem to be driver issue.

You have to allow the possibility the computer is not Windows 10 compliant and the driver you want is not (and will not be) available. I had an older Lenovo that I had to restore to Windows 7 because of this issue.

I used Windows 10 reset and after reload the Audio works...I hope updates don't break it again...holding my breath...
