Microsoft virtualization on bare metal

Hello Experts,

I have Dell Inc, Power Edge 2950 and I would like to use it for virtualizing 2 servers for windows.
I don't want to use VMWARE esx hypervisor for this and was wondering what OS is available from Microsoft to install the two vms . Windows server 2012 R2.

Please help as I need to finalize it this week.

You can install Hyper V Server:

or you can install it "on top" as a role/function after win2008 and later have been installed

If you have Server 2012 R2 already, then you should just install that to the hardware.  2012 R2 (and 2012) come with 1+2 licensing - meaning, you can install ONE copy on a PHYSICAL machine and, provided you ONLY install the Hyper-V role, you can then install UP TO two additional copies in VMs on Hyper-V.  You COULD install Hyper-V server as cfgtechs suggests... but that's a waste and unnecessary complication in my opinion - hyper-v server (without the Windows 2012 GUI -- which is what Hyper-V server is) is a beast and pain to manage.  So keep the GUI and install 2012.  You're already covered as far as licensing goes.

Ok so I will install windows 2012 on to dell 2950 first and add the HYPER-V ROLE to get two vms. great.

Authors context is to "bare metal" instead of using VMware.
So you could install the beast or as I also suggested load win2008 or later version and install the hyper-v role/function to virtualize servers

I just want to install the HYPER-V 2012 not the full windows plus role. That is my plan.

Thank you all.
