How to change the WooCommerce Checkout Procedure?

I've become the Webmaster for a WordPress site that's running WooCommerce,   I have a lot of experience designing and maintaining websites, but not with WordPress or WooCommerce  so I'm in catch-up mode.  Currently when you checkout on this site it asks:

Returning Customer?  Click here to login.

Then it takes an email and a password.  If it finds you it fills in the form with saved info. I'd like to change the checkout procedure but I don't see anything in  the WooCommerce settings available to me that gives me  the the kind of control I want.  Suppose, for example, I just wanted to change the text displayed, to something like:

Check if you've bought from us before?

Or better, I"d like it to set and read some cookies so when the user checks out it recognizes him and says, "Hi Dave, welcome back!" and fills in his saved information.

How can I get this kind of control over the checkout procedure?

Thanks.

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi,

WordPress and WooCommerce have "action hooks" which you can hang your own code on to do stuff. The general idea is that you write a function which should be called by the hook, and then register that function to be called.

There is a hook called "woocommerce_before_checkout_registration_form" which is possibly the one you want.

Here is a tutorial of sorts: https://www.skyverge.com/blog/hook-into-woocommerce-actions/
