New drive status is Unknown on PERC H700
The attached image shows Disk 3 in an unknown state.
Disks 3 and 7 were in a non-critical Failure Predicted state but were not assigned to any RAID. I replaced drive 7 and assigned it as the Global hot spare.
Disk 3 is a new drive and is lit solid green. It was previously non-critical with Failure Predicted.
Disk 3 Available Tasks is blank.
I used another new drive in Disk 3 with the same result.
PERC H700 firmware version is 12.10.1-0001 (newer one is available for download).
All drives are Dell certified.
Shortly after plugging in Disk 3, event ID 1004 appears in the event logs, "The IPMI device driver attempted to communicate with the IPMI BMC device during normal operation....".
Any ideas?

I swapped disks 3 and 7 with the same result.
Disk 3 is reporting unknown yet its light is solid green.

maybe a slot other than 3 or 7?
or perhaps a different server?
just trying to see if dell sent bad drives; occurs rarely but have seen it happen

Updated the firmware.
do you have a different slot to try one of those new disks?
if it works in a different slot, it could be a problem with the back plane
