How to backup Linux Servers?

I am currently using Symantec Backup Exec 2010 r3, for a group of MS Windows Servers. However, I have a group of 6 linux servers - 2 being RHEL 5.2, and 3 being CentOS 5.5, and 1 being CentOS 6.3.

I have checked with my distributor that SBE 15 is only able to backup RHEL, but not CentOS distro. btw, how to backup the remaining 4 CentOS distros? I heard that Acronis backup and recovery linux edition can do so, is this true? Can I schedule to run rsync? or any better solution?

Thanks and appreciate help.

What's running on those servers? DB, web server, email?
You can use LVM snapshots, rsync, tar, etc.

Easiest is to use tar. Schedule it using cron.
tar cvpzf /path/to/backups/centos_box_1_YYYYMMDD.tgz --exclude=/proc --exclude=/lost+found --exclude=/mnt --exclude=/sys --exclude=/dev /

Then copy it to the backup server
scp /path/to/backups/centos_box_1_YYYYMMDD.tgz ServerBackupFQDNOrIP:/path/to/backups/

RedHat and CentOS are the so close to being the same operating systems.  I suspect that they will back up just as well as the RHEL servers will, but Symantec just doesn't support it. I would give it a try before looking for a new solution.

Thanks for both experts.

Savone pointed a very important point - SBE won't support centOS although RHEL is supported. Dan suggested using Linux commands - SCP, rsync. I opted for rsync, and the backup operation is working fine so far.
