Why are the Notes not synced between Mac and iPhone

I edited something on my iPhone's Notes app, it's not synced to my Mac. And on my Mac I edited something using the Notes and it's not synced back to my iPhone either. Does any one know why this happens? Does the syncing happen automatically?

iPhone is running iOS 9 and MAC is running OS X version 10.10.5.

You need to have Notes turned on for at least one of your email accounts... and the same setting on the Mac. You also need to make sure you're not saving notes to the "on my iPhone" section (which doesn't always exist).

If you have a  ton of notes in the "on my iPhone" section and you don't want to manually move them over to the section within your email account, you can sync them via iTunes.

Also, iOS 9 and El Capitan will sync Notes via iCloud instead of the current imperfect IMAP system.

Hi Justin, I just checked my Mac (Running Yosemite 10.10.5). In System Preferences->iCloud, the "Notes" is checked. And on my iPhone (iOS 9), in iCloud, the "Notes" is also on. But the Notes are not synced. Do you know why?

By the way, I am new to this site, is it possible to @ somebody to draw some attention?

Well anyone already involved with a thread gets an email whenever its' updated. Don't think you can @reply to someone, no.

You should be able to change the default Notes location in Settings > Notes

Also, on your phone, did you already upgrade to iOS 9 and the new Notes infrastructure? If so, you'll need to wait until El Capitan comes out to get full syncing back.

If you're still on iOS 8, then you should open the notes app and tap the back arrow (top left) to see the folders you're working with. Usually people have their notes "ON MY IPHONE" instead of in "ICLOUD" in this section. You can manually copy and paste the contents of each note from one section to another if you don't have very many... but if you have a ton, you'll want to sync the notes via iTunes and then drag them en masse with the Mac Notes app.
