"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I'm not sure I understand your notation.
You seem to have more ) than ( and I'm not sure what you mean by |

But it looks to me like
((10x+2)/11)
/
((11x-1)/9)
=
(9*(10x+2))
/
(11*(11x-1))

Hi

Please check if you gave the right info of the right hand side but for the left hand side below will be the steps
10x       2
__    +   __
11        11
-------------------    =     -18   --------------
11x       1                   ___   |5x  + 1)
__      -   __                  11   |3x  +1
9            9                          ---------------
________________________________________________________________
10x +   2
____________
       11
-------------------    =     -18   --------------
11x   -    1                   ___   |5x  + 1)
___________                  11   |3x  +1
     9                                       ---------------
______________________________________________________________

(10x +   2) * 9
__________________      =    -18  --------------
11 ( 11x - 1)                       ____  |5x  + 1)
                                             11   |3x  +1
                                                     --------------
________________________________________

(90x +   18)
__________________      =    -18  --------------
( 121x - 11)                      ____    |5x  + 1)
                                             11   |3x  +1
                                                     --------------
As your right hand side is not clear (3x + 1 and 3x + 1 ) I am leaving it at this stage but, in general to find x you will now multiply
( 90x + 18 ) * 11  = -18 (121x - 11 )
Now bring the x to one side and the numbers to one side and the solve for x.

3/11(x) + 7/1x  + 2/11  all this divided by 4/9x + 7/9x - 1/9  And the answer is -18/11 times (5x+1)/(3x+1)

Please tell me how to get this answer.   This is from the green calculus review of algebra and trig that is copyright 197~, so this book stands the test of time

I am pretty sure either you, or the book is leaving out a negative on the (7x/9) term.  With that it will give you the answer, see attached image.
