Client Backup to External Hard Drive on Windows Server 2012 Essentails
A company is currently running an SBS 2008 server with folder redirection. The Server is backed up during the night using built-in backup to an external drive and this drive is rotated weekly for off-site protection. User data is therefore backed up onto these drives.
They are now looking at replacing the server with Essentials 2012 and I see you can use folder re-direction or client computer backup / file history.
My question is:
Can I use client computer backup / file history and back up the server in the same way as the current server?
The current backup is done out of office hours so there is usually no one on the client computers. I therefore assume, if the same principles are followed, the “File History Backups” and/or “Client Computer Backups” folders in “ServerFolders” will back up without problem onto an external hard drive - ensuring off-site backup of user data in case of fire etc.?
Thanks in advance.

there is another option, create individuals shares on 'User basis' then make a GPO which link that shares as Map Drives so users can copy all of their work in that mapped drive then you have to create a backup schedule on server to backup that location which is shared as mapped drive for all users.
but with this option you have to force users to copy/edit their files in/to/from their mapped drives.
with folder redirection 'My Documents', 'Desktop' or profiles data automatically gather in the Server's folder which can easy to handle.

They use Folder Redirection on the current server but I am considering the best option(s) for the new server,
If I can backup The File History Backups and Client Computer Backups using the built-in backup on Server 2012 to an external Hard Drive, then that is great.
However, can anyone suggest whether it is best to use Folder Redirection or the File History/Client computer backups to get the data onto the server in the first place?
If this should be a separate question, I will create it.
