ESXi 5.5 to Update 3

I am looking at upgrading some ESXi 5.5 to the latest update in our datacentre in the US.  They are having a few issues with Server 2012r2 VM's getting stuck on the startup screen.

I have inherited this site, and they don't appear to have Update Manager or anything else installed, so I'm looking to install this via SSH and the esxcli software profile update command.  I have got the SSH configured etc.

I just wanted to check that I've got the correct version :

Release Date: Sep 16, 2015
Download Filename:
Build: 3029944

Am I OK to install this as is, or do I need the previous updates ?  I don't think I do but just wanted to be sure.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Thanks Andrew

I've tried to run the update with the following command

# esxcli software profile update -d /vmfs/volumes/mydatastore/Images/

but when it runs I dont get any notification to say its completed.  The terminal just sits on the > prompt.

If I read your guide correctly I should get an output after about 20 seconds ?

I must be missing something :)  Can you see where I could be going wrong ?

Thanks for all your help

you should get a notice it's completed.

did you specify the profile ?

Hi Andrew

I thought so,  I've just re-checked the command syntax.  When you mention specifying the profile is this the bit you mean ?

esxcli software profile update -d /vmfs/volumes/your_datastore/ -p ESXi-5.5.0-patch-standard

I think I missed the last bit in bold/italics.
