WatchGuard XTM 510 IMAP/SMTP Policies

I am new to using WatchGuard devices and was wondering what are the proper policies to setup for an email server (Xeams running on Windows 2008 R2 vm in ESXi)? I setup the standard policies for all the ports (25, 993, 465, 143) and the MX records are ok at the host for the domain. The ports are open per a port scan. The problem I have is when setting up a client like Thunderbird. It fails to connect to the server. I'm sure it is something fairly simple in the configuration that is missing.

Are you trying to access the server over the internet or over the local LAN.

Depending on the answer we would check policies.

If access is from internet and server is on a private IP behind firewall, then we would need to setup NAT other than firewall policy. Static or 1-1.

If access is from LAN, then the security policy would suffice.

Thank you.
