Unable to logon to vCenter via the VSphere client using root.

I just inherited a VMware environment.  I'm able to connect directly to my hosts using the root and PW.  I can also use AD integration to logon.  The problem is when I go logon to the vCenter server via the vSphere client I'm unable to use the root client, I can however use my AD user.  The system is running ESXi 4.1.  Any ideas?

What you are observing is correct.

The root account is the default account on the local ESXi server. e.g. local account on the ESXi 4.1 server.

(the root account is a throwback to Unix and Linux servers, where the superuser for the server was always root!)

Unless you have created a root account in Active Directory, you would normally use Active Directory users. vCenter Server authenticates against Active Directory and Local Administrators group on the Windows Server.

So no root account exists to gain access.

So, again what you are observing is normal behaviour.
