I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

It seems pretty descriptive to me.  You are running as user 'public' and that user doesn't have permissions to run DBCC CHECKIDENT.  Change the user under which you are running.

A user that wants to run DBCC CHECKIDENT needs to have high authority, specifically be at least a db_ddladmin in that db, or actually own the table (or own the db, but if you were db_owner, you wouldn't be having this issue at all).

You'll need to be granted additional permissions to allow you to run that command.
