Exchange 2010 - throttle send connector?

Good morning!

Is it possible to limit the amount of emails that exchange sends out per hour? Limiting the client is not going to work, as the mail is send from Pastel to an exchange email account, which means about 5000+ emails is dumped on the exchange server in a  matter of minutes, causing the ISP to see "spam" immediately? If I can throttle the send connector to only "release 250 emails per hour to the smarthost, it may just solve my pain!

Any ideas?

Exchange by itself can not limit quantity/size email per time unit. I had simmilar problem past, here Exchange shares users internet access. When someone send large amount of email with attachments, internet access was unoperative until Exchange send all emails on queue.

You can try limit bandwith using any kind of switch or firewall: http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/data-center/limit-bandwidth-on-a-cisco-catalyst-switch-port/

I think there is no throttling options for send connector except message size limit. but you can throttle receive/relay connector which receives e-mail from your application using below command:

Set-recieveconnector "Server Name\Client Connector" -Messageratelimit 100

This limit works for per minute message so it means 100 message per minute. Now you can set accordingly to your env. PLease refer this link
