"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

The more information you provide upfront, the better. So if you already have a template, then post an image with the desired layout. Unless we have specifics, we cannot help at all. Don't wait for us to ask for it.

That said, it's common these days to rely on CSS frameworks such as Bootstrap (http://www.layoutit.com/build) which  help you to bootstrap your responsive site. The model is to separate you don't end design from your backend JSP code. If course this depends a lot on what your application is all about.

You can look at other popular alternatives for responsive CSS frameworks here:

One of the good cross-platform and responsive framework is BootStrap.
You can find plenty of Free Bootstrap templates  @

http://startbootstrap.com/template-categories/all/

http://www.bootstrapzero.com/

https://bootswatch.com/

Or if you like to create your templates from scratch, you may look at "bootstrap tools".

I used PineGrow ( http://pinegrow.com/)

Try  col-xs-1

@Pravin's idea sounds good... possibly slightly bigger than xs-1 on the xs screens, so that it's still easy to click etc... Just remember to include the different classes... class="col-lg-1 col-md-1 col-xs-3"

If you want different display depending on the screen size, you will want to research @meta queries:http://www.w3schools.com/cssref/css3_pr_mediaquery.asp

What you can do is to use these Bootstrap classes
http://getbootstrap.com/css/#responsive-utilities-classes
You can decide what will be visible or hidden based on the device size
ie: hidden-xs visible-lg-*

This is very useful let say I want to show a regular button on bigger device and I  hide the regular button and show an Icon instead on smaller device.
