Exchange Hardware Loadbalancing

We have setup 3 Exchange 2010 sp3 rollup 8 behind a F5 load balancer. Each server has HUB, CAS and MBX roles installed.

What I would like to happen when i migrate a database to another server is the end user not realize its happening. Currently, when I do any mail box moves Outlook drops connection instead of staying connected.

What setting(s) need to be done to make this possible? Thanks!

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Thank you! But those articles do not explain what i am looking for. We already have a Dag, there is only 1 site. What I need is to be able to move a database during the day without end users being aware. They become aware when their outlook shows disconnected. Once the database moves to the other server in a day environment then it reconnects. I want it to stay connected at all times as long as the load balancer is up.

To clarify: you can not move database without disrupting your users, on Exchange 2010 ever got disconnected from server event.

After that, your 3 servers has hub+cas+mailbox roles and you are balancing using F5 balancer over 3 servers. Could you tell me more about this load balancing? I suspect your dag is not correcly setup, can not load balance cas if mailbox role is installed on it.

I have always been told that is possible if you have a hardware load balancer to have all the roles on one system.  Has this changed?

I also was told that you could move databases and leave Outlook connected because the Outlook connection would stay connected to the F5 LB so the connection stays persistent.

Persistence, in case CAS failure causes client not disconnect. But when failover (or switchover) event on mailbox servers, you are disconnecting one database and reconnect another one, CAS has not server where connect to. Extracted from https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd298067.aspx:

Server failure: The server fails for one of the following reasons:
Complete power failure
Unrecovered failure of the processor chip, motherboard, or backplane
Operating system stop error
Operating system stops responding
Complete communication failure

Short outage during automatic failover.

Oh ok thank you very much!  That is helpful.  But back to your comment about CAS not being LB properly, is all in one behind a hardware LB not supported anymore?  Thanks!

Forget this comment, I was thinking on a WNLB :P. Your setup is fully supported.

You should be able to move your users to another DB, then move the original DB, then move the users back.

When you do it that way they should not be disconnected.
