Rename a file that exists with a new name (?) using vb6

I have files like this
01-03-2016.rtf
02-20-2016.rtf
03-10-2016.rtf

When saving a new file if already exists then don't override just give it a name like this:
01-03-2016(1).rtf  if this exists then
01-03-2016(2).rtf

How to write this?

Hi,

pls try

strFullpath = "c:\aa\test.doc"
strPath = Left(strFullpath, InStrRev(strFullpath, "\"))
strFileNameAndExt = Mid(strFullpath, InStrRev(strFullpath, "\") + 1)
strExt = Mid(strFileNameAndExt, InStrRev(strFileNameAndExt, "."))
strFileName = Left(strFileNameAndExt, Len(strFileNameAndExt) - (Len(strExt)))

newname = strFullpath
Count = 1
Do While Len(Dir(newname)) 'test if file exists
    'loop file name numbering
    newname = strPath & strFileName & "(" & Count & ")" & strExt  'New numbered name
    Count = Count + 1
Loop
'Saveas newName ' your save

You could also just add the current time to your file name, so...

01-03-2016-082507.rtf ' Added at 08:25.07
01-03-2016-091509.rtf ' Added at 09:15.09
