System Center 2012 & WSUS integration (removal)

SCCM 2012sp1
Windows 2012sp1
WSUS installed on the same server
Have a client that somewhere along the way they had an admin that integrated WSUS in SCCM.   They would like to remove the integration/software update point & return to just using the WSUS Admin console.

If I remove the "Software update point - A site system role that runs Microsoft WSUS" role from the SCCM Server under Admin/Overview/Servers and Site System roles...  will that do the trick?
Is it even possible?

Cheers!

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi,

Yes, it is possible and it won't affect WSUS.

It's normally the other way round in that you need to install WSUS to install SUP, so removing WSUS will break SUP, but I digress :).

Why do "they" want to go back to just WSUS though? You lose reporting and better reboot scheduling.
If WSUS has been configured and you're having problems with the integration that is likely the problem. You only ever install WSUS and leave it totally un-configured. You don't even fire up the WSUS console.

It sounds like you need a fresh start either way.

Thanks Mike!

They have had many fingers in this server over the years & no one has taken ownership.  I believe at one time WSUS was configured & working fine, but a temp admin integrated it into SCCM & now  updates out of SCCM are intermittently failing.   Short term goal is getting WSUS working, but most likely going to refer them to a SCCM subject matter expert to help them out or rebuild their server.

Thanks

WSUS is much like WINS, once you activate it, it just runs and runs and runs.  They were designed with the KISS method (Keep It Simple).
