Website Backup Options

Hi,

I am in the process of looking into new ways to manage the backups of my client's websites.

I host all of my client's websites on Digital Ocean, and each VPS (droplet) is backed up each week (4 times a month) for 20% of the VPS cost...  however i recently found out that this does not include a backup of the database.

Can anyone recommend any other backup systems or scripts that will automatically backup the files and database on a daily basis... even to 3rd party storage?

01 -  80% of my websites are Wordpress based, so even a plugin that will backup the files and database on a regular basis would suffice
02 - 20% of my websites are custom php / mysql sites so to put some other measure in place

Thank you in advance for your help.

Wordpress plugin can help you to back wordpress site and DB. Refer

For custom sites, you need to first backup your site and need to use third party tool to backup mydql database.

You should consider backing up your backups!  What I mean is, for example, Wordpress has several plugins for backing up but not all will backup to a different host.  What if your Wordpress host were to spontaneously combust and disappear into a poof of smoke?  Backing up to your host is great for "oops" moments, but is not a good solution for disaster recovery.  You need offsite/off-host backups.

There are a ton of tools & services available for this.  This article covers some Wordpress specific ones.  Some (if not all) of these suggestions would also backup you non-Wordpress files.

Here are a few more.

For the Wordpress sites, my favorite backup tool is Backup Buddy.  You can automate your backup with it and also back up your backups by downloading the backed up files to other locations via ftp, or to Amazon or other cloud services.  It's all baked in.  It will also let you know via email (if you want it to) that it has backed up.  Very cool and easy to use.  You can get a license that lets you install it on all of your sites.
