I have a wsus server which shows some non-updated workstations and servers. I am new to wsus server and technology. I would like to know what the procedure to update these workstations and servers so that they don't show any errors here.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Not sure how you have the GPO set up to configure the workstations. If you are not forcing machines to shutdown and install patches, then many users will never do it.

You can force a machine to check, by typing wuauclt /detectnow at a command prompt. A few mins later, updates will be ready, and you can install them at shutdown.

i would start looking at logs and seeing what update(s) are failing
you can run a wsus report for that computer and see what the failed update is
