Disable Fn keys on Lenovo laptops

I people actively using F2 and other keys for Excel applications.  On laptops however, they have to use Fn+F2 or similar.  Otherwise it controls Volumes and other hardware functions.
Is there a way to disable those?

Thanks.

Check your laptop setup and accessibility settings in Control Panel. F1 - F12 work normally in Lenovo Laptops including Excel. It has worked that way as long as I can remember and for all my clients.

Fn-F2 actually does not do anything. Fn-F3 is lock on my Lenovo.

But I use Excel and F2 and it all works.

This is for T450s model.
Just F2 is a volume.
Fn+F2 excel insert.
The document below is not for your particular model, but see if it sheds some light. Default does not do this in my experience but the article suggests how to change it.

Tiras25 - Any luck resetting BIOS?  I have checked all our clients (we use Lenovo ThinkPads exclusively) and no Lenovo ThinkPad requires Fn-F2 for Excel.

We do have one individual who insists on using an HP keyboard with his Lenovo machine and that user needs to use Fn-F2 for F2. But if we remove the keyboard and just use the built-in Keyboard then there is no problem.
Hi John, I think T450s has a different keyboard layout than other models.
So when you do F2 it controls the Volume.  Fn+F2 does excel insert.  Same for F4 - repeat, F5 - goto, F12-save, F9-refresh.
So I wonder how to make it as a default.  Not to use Fn key all the time.  I'll try your BIOS suggestion as well when I get a chance.
I have used everything up to and including T440 and F2 works normally. Let us know about the BIOS suggestion when you get a chance.  Thanks.
Also see if Lenovo Hotkey is installed. I use this and do not have a problem. But if installed, you might uninstall it and test.
I just tested on other laptops and same effect.   I guess T450s have a different keyboard layout.   Other keyboards don't have a volume on F2 and brightness on F5 and so on.
I got to figure out how to change it now..

Where is hotkey would be?   Add/remove programs?
Hotkey is in Control Panel,  Programs and Features.
I see Lenovo QuickControl in Add/Remove Programs.  No Hotkeys though.
You might also wish to contact Lenovo Support (new machine) and ask them for their advice. I cannot image ANY Excel user (hundreds of millions of us) who would rather use Fn-F2 for Excel.
Exactly!!!   Now I confirmed all the T450s models do the same thing.  And no Hotkeys installed.
I'll get back to you.
I have found it does not live in Programs and Features. Two things:

1. Download the HotKey package for your specific model. Get the TXT readme and well and open the TXT readme with WordPad. See the uninstall instructions. You might try those instructions to see if you can remove it.

Manual Uninstall

  1. Start Windows and logon with an administrator account.
  2. Refer to the Manual Install section, and download and extract the file.
  3. In the step 11 of the Installing files section, uncheck the checkbox next
to "Install ..... now", and then click Finish to complete extraction.
  4. Locate the folder where the files were extracted.
  5. Double-click setup file.
  6. Select Uninstall currently installed driver ...
  7. Follow the instructions on the screen.

2. Consider uninstalling (even temporarily) Quick Control.

3. Also call Lenovo Support
Thanks John.  I also think there's a way to disable Fn option in BIOS.  But then it would be completely dead.
Fn+ESC fixed the issue.

Another way doing thin in BIOS.  Reverting the default to a regular F2 vs. Fn+F2.

Thanks John.
BIOS was a good part suggestion.
Fn+ESC for the record worked.
@Tiras25 - Thanks and I was happy to help. Thank you for the information on the T450s and I will keep this in mind.
