DCDIAG attempts to resolve contoso.local as part of test

Naturally it fails.  Is this normal, as this customers forest root domain is a .local?

This is the command I am running:

"dcdiag.exe /v /c /d /e /a"

How do I resolve this if it is an issue?

Thank you!

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

you shouldn't be hitting root servers for internal tools like this
make sure the server is using internal dns servers for name resolution; not external

Seth, thank you for your reply!
so the DC's have internal DNS servers for name resolution and (where I would put the ISP's name servers) this company has google's public DNS for forwarders &

I thought root hints were last resorts stuff... naturally the public dns cannot resolve contoso.com nor can the root hints.

what is the topology here?  multiple domains?  parent/child domains?

A single Forest with discontiguous namespaces (Multi-Tree Forest).  An empty Forest Root named contoso.local and the domain where the users live abc.com
