Ubuntu machine can't resolve ubuntu.com

I've got something wrong with my bind configuration.  Can anyone here see what I'm doing stupid?
 cat named.conf.options
options {
        directory "/var/cache/bind";

        // If there is a firewall between you and nameservers you want
        // to talk to, you may need to fix the firewall to allow multiple
        // ports to talk. See http://www.kb.cert.org/vuls/id/800113

        // If your ISP provided one or more IP addresses for stable
        // nameservers, you probably want to use them as forwarders.
        // Uncomment the following block, and insert the addresses replacing
        // the all-0's placeholder.

        // forwarders {
        //      0.0.0.0;
        // };

        auth-nxdomain no;    # conform to RFC1035
        listen-on-v6 { any; };
        listen-on port 53 { any; };
        forwarders {
                8.8.8.8;
                };
  allow-update     { none; };
  allow-query     { localhost; 127.0.0.1; };
  recursion no;

  dnssec-enable no;
};

dwilson@ns1:/etc/bind$ nslookup us.archive.ubuntu.com

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Recursion no;
is your issue.

Why are you using forwarders. These days it's unnecessary.
Why are you limiting the query to localhost only?

Do you have a hints zone?
