GPO not working

Hi Experts,

I have setup on my SBS 2011 GPO rules to force the PC's to bring up a screen saver after 'x' amount of time.

but for some reason its not working, I have never done anything like this before so this is a little out my comfort zone.

so I have set it up in User Configuration - Policies - Administrative Templates - Control Panel - Personalization

Enable screen saver - Enabled
Prevent changing screen saver - Enabled
Password protect the screen saver - Enabled
Screen saver timeout - Enabled (20 seconds)
Force specific screen saver - Enabled (\\svr01\Company\TO MOVE RW\christmas theme.jpg)

after I have set these all to enabled I will do a GPUPDATE /force on the PC and restart it, after the restart it appears to not make a difference. doesn't prevent me changing it, nothing happens at all. its as if I haven't selected anything.

when I set these up, do I need to 'activate' the changes I have done or is it with immediate affect?

all help welcome

Where is your GPO linked?

It should be linked to an OU with user accounts.

Hi Toni,

how do I link it to an OU?

I am a complete newbie at this

You should link the GPO to the OU or OUs where your users are and ensure to apply it to Domain Users.

Open GPMC - Group Policy Management Console.
Select OU wich contains users.
Right click OU and select Link an Existing GPO...
Select proper GPO.

Go to client computer, run gpupdate /force and then gpresult to check if policy is applied.

you are trying to force with .jpg
the GPO 'Force Specific screen saver' can't apply screensaver other than .scr format

please put %Systemroot%\system32\ssText3d.scr in GPO
User Configuration, Administrative Templates, Control Panel, and Personalization > 'Force Specific screen saver' and test it.

in order to apply .jpg please consider:

@Toni, thanks this worked fine however the picture is my default one and not the one I am trying to force!
@ Muhammed I changed this to the following %logonserver%\Company\TO MOVE RW\christmas theme.scr but it still didn't work!

okay so I think I am getting there, just need that last bit of help someone please.

after the set amount of time my PC will lock itself so I know that's all working, but I wanted to set the PC lock screen background and I think that this im trying to use is for a screensaver not the lock screen? unless they are the same thing. in addition to that I  tried to open the file I created and because I saved it as a .scr it says the following : custom.scr is not a valid Win32 application.

maybe this has something to do with it, im guessing this means you cant just save a jpg as a .scr?

or am I looking at this the wrong way. help please EE2.PNG
Muhammad BurhanManager I.T.Commented:
There are some tools (freeware) which convert .jpg to .scr..
Google them and download.
Please always copy the .scr on individual PCs because every PC may require that .scr in every 5 mins, so it consumes bandwith and also fill the logs file of the DC

@Muhammed Burhan
I have now downloaded 4 software's all claiming to be able to do this convert but not a single one will detect the image.

I have attached the image I am trying to convertchristmas-theme.jpg
