McAfee Exclusions : Processes v's Files and Folders

Hi Everyone,

I am running McAfee ePO 5.1 and have several database servers, some clustered.

Can anyone let me know what are the differences between excluding Processes v's files and folders ?

Appreciate your assistance.

Thanks

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

If you exclude a file it won't be scanned by the realtime scanner, no matter which process does access it. The same is with folders.

If you exclude a process (it must be an executable file like .exe, .dll etc.) none of the files on your system will be scanned by the realtime scanner when being accessed by this process.
