DCPROMO Domain Controller running exchange 2010

We are currently running 2008 R2 Standard edition being a DC that also has exchange 2010 running.  We have another DC running that can handle the network.  We tried to DCPROMO but failed stating the other DC did not have certain information and stops.  I am wondering if DCPROMO /forceremoval would do anything with Exchange at all or if anyone has successfully done this before.

We have another server with Exchange 2010 that we are replicating to which is not a DC.  The reason we need to dcpromo the existing Exchange server is we need to upgrade it to Server 2008 R2 Enterprise.  Memory is being maxed out at 32GB and need to install more memory.  Unfortunately the Standard version only sees 32GB RAM.
