DL380 G7 Memory

Hello,

I have a DL380 G7 Server which currently have 64Gb of Memory, Part Number here:

8x HP 8GB 2Rx4 PC3-10600R-9 Kit (P/N: 501536-001)

Current Memory is setup as follows:

We want to upgrade the server with another 64Gb, so we have purchased these:

4x HP 16GB 4Rx4 PC3-8500R-7 Kit (500666-B21)

We have installed the 16Gb Modules into the slots below (in red):

But when booting the server up we are seeing erros on bootup:

07 Memory Initialization Error, Invailed Memory Config.

Any advice?

The HP user guide specifies that quad-ranked DIMMs must be installed first on a given channel.

Channel 1 is slots 1, 2 and 3
Channel 2 is slots 4, 5 and 6
Channel 3 is slots 7, 8 and 9

Installation order is from the highest slot number for a channel down to the lowest, so I would swap the DIMMs in slots 5 and 6 and in slots 8 and 9 to get the quad-ranked new DIMMs in the "first" slots for channels 2 and 3.

Hi - this worked thank you.

I have another memory upgrade now for a DL380 G7, Server currently has 64 Gb installed but want to add 8x HP 16GB 4Rx4 PC3-8500R-7 Kit (500666-B21) sticks to get 192Gb in total, current memory layout is below:

What order do I install these modules?
According to the rules, as best I understand them, the layout should look something like this:

In future, you might want to order memory for these types of machines in quantities that are a multiple of 6 so you can make everything symmetrical.
Thanks, i'll try this next week and let you know.
