Second Server is not adding to DAG

I need a clarification on the following

I have the following servers 2 Exchange 2013
1.      One Exchange 2013 CU4 i.e. SP1 – CAS & MB – 2 mail stores with enough storage
2.      Second Exchange Server 2013 CU9  - CAS & MB – 2 mail stores with enough storage

Tried creating a DAG of the two server the second server is not attaching itself to the DAG throughing an error.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

What is the error you are receiving, why are the servers not at the same patch level?
Joe FrixonBusiness OwnerAuthor Commented:
hi Stuart, Thanks for the message. When I installed the first server with Exchange 2013 SP1 it worked good but when it was updated with latest patches the server failed to restart its Exchange Services so we uninstalled all the updates and then restarted server came online.
From this moment I have not updated the first server then I presumed a DAG may save the problem if one fails the other can take control so this time I created this second server with CU9 and the server is working fine however all user mailboxes are still in the first server. While creating the DAG the first server got added but the second server didn't.
The main reason for DAG is to patch the first server with CU9 and then plan ADFS for Offfice 365 which is another road block I was facing because of patch level.

please check below things:

1. Check network settings on both servers
2. are they reachable from each other
3. can you please paste cluster logs to check it further?
4. disable Firewall and then try it...

Remote Registry Service running on both Servers?
Joe FrixonBusiness OwnerAuthor Commented:
will upgrading the CU9 will it resolve all my issues.

should i run preparead, prepareschema and preparedomain again. I ran these settings when installing my second exchange server?

upgrading the first server to CU9 hope it will add the second server to the DAG

I believe DAG will replicate the Mailboxstore from one server to another automatically. do we need to create an empty mailboxstore in each server? - this is silly but its my doubt
Amit KumarCommented:
ideally your both server should be with same level of SP/CU when you are running them together.

SO install CU9 on another too, it will help you for sure. No need to run preparead/schema.
