PC - Benchmark evaluation

Hi,
I need your help on how to evaluate a laptop performance when I run 1 specific software.
I was asked to evaluate if we need to upgrade our laptop due to a new software that we have. The first time I've used that software, the CPU was at 95% most of the time + the memory usage was also very high.
I would like to record the full activity results while that software runs and use the recap to justify the upgrade based on the data run.
How can I do this. I've seen some software like the Sisoft Sandra but this is very expensive.
What would be my options to accomplish that?

I'm under Windows 8.1.

Thanks for your help

Open Resource Monitor (Admin Tools) and track CPU and Memory for a couple of hours. It will tell you what activity is taking all the resources and for how long.

Ok, let me give it a try. I was hoping for something that would narrow down the monitoring to a specific application.

But i will try it.

Resource monitor tracks by application name if there is one so it should help. It does for me.

You might want to try Geekbench - I like that it simulates Office tasks as part of its testing.
Run it once on the basic machine, run it again with your app in full effect, and see the difference in the scores.

Thanks for all ideas.

I'm attaching a benchmark result about the before, during and after i ran a specific software.

No other software were running beside the specific one.

What do you think about the result?

Would the CPU be ok? What about the memory?

From what you posted, it wasn't because of this application. In your graphs maximum processor usage was 25% (basically 1 core) and 900 MB RAM.

Can you please check if that app is not spawning additional threads/apps when it runs? That could explain the high resource usage.

For ex, the main Chrome app uses 343 MB RAM on my computer. Not a lot, but it has about 30 children (I have 12 tabs opened), for a total of over 2 GB RAM.

Thanks to all, I tried all options and arrive at pretty much the same results every time i run my application.
