Creating separate GAL for external contacts?

I have exchange 2007 and I am looking to create a few separate GAL's with external email addresses.

In the Exchange Management Console, if I go to Organizational Configuration > Mailbox and then the Address Lists tab I can create another GAL that I do see.  But how do I add external emails to this?

If I go to Recipient Configuration > Mail contact, I can create the external users but they appear in 'All Contacts' and not within the GAL that I created in the step above...

Also when I create a contact in that location it seems to create an email address for them with one of our domains? I would prefer for it not to create or attach our domain email to this external user.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

What you are looking to do from what I can figure is create a new Address List that allows users to filter from Outlook very easily rather than an additional GAL.

If you want to create an additional GAL you need to use Exchange Management Shell and not the EMC.

This 4 part Blog will outline the steps to create an additional GAL and give you the Pros and Cons of doing so.  I figure the writer did a great job of outlining this that it is worth a read.

As far I know, GAL is only for your Exchange Organization.  you cannot add external contacts in GAL.

You totally can create Mail-Enabled Contact in Exchange that have a different domain then your Org and have them searchable from within Outlook via the GAL.

No Problem.

We have decided to go with creating mailboxes within EMC > Recipient Configuration > Mail contact.  This seems to be the easiest route to display all the external contacts within the GAL.  I am going to attempt a bulk csv upload to hopefully get this done faster.

Thanks for the replies.
