Excel: add cells based on adjacent cell value

Greetings!

I have a count for a particular range of cells (=COUNTIF(E2:E20,"*" & "yes" & "*"))

I would like to add the numbers in the cells F2:F20, where the E2:E20 cell value = "yes"

can you help me with the formula for that?

Thank you!

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Johnd,

You can do something like this for search,..

=SUMPRODUCT((ISNUMBER(SEARCH("yes",E2:E20,1)))*F2:F20)

And even for count you can do something like this..

=SUMPRODUCT(--(ISNUMBER(SEARCH("yes",E2:E20,1))))
