cannot create wordpress user

I can login to cpanel in wordpress account but I am not able to create new user.  I can add all the user info but a password.  There is no field to enter a password.  There is a "show password" button but when I click on it nothing happens.  There is a note under show password button that says "a password reset link will be sent to the user via email." but an email is never sent.  HELP!

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Latest version of WordPress changed the user system a bit.  The password is no longer emailed to user, instead they get the link to create a new password.

So what you see is the new normal.

When we click on "show password" button nothing happens.  We don't get email either.  Very weird.  Could be a plugin interfering?

Possibly.  If there is a login that intercepts user stuff and it hasn't been updated, it can cause problems.  Theme My Login lagged behind reality for several weeks.

i disabled all plugins and then was able to click on "show password" to get a password.  The system did not let me create a password on my own.  I had to use their really secure one which I guess is good but it's going to be hard to remember that is for sure!

Once you create the password, you can use the recovery feature to change it to something less secure.  Or just start using a good password manager like LastPass...

THanks for the suggestion of lastpass.  I am going to check it out.
